Great inventions of 2012

2012 was supposed a pivotal year—the year of the apocalypse, the end of the world, etc. Thankfully, we’re all still here and instead of being the end of anything, we’re seeing some great inventions launch because of all the incredible technology we have at our fingertips.

If you’ve ever snapped a pic too quickly and then, when you’re scrolling through your camera roll, realize that you forgot to adjust the focus, you will truly appreciate Lytro’s light-field camera. This cool gadget actually enables you to adjust the photo after it’s already taken. No more amateur photo moments to worry about!

If you’ve ever tried restringing your favorite sweats or needed to find a replacement for a hoodie drawstring, you will truly appreciate the handy Re-String It device. It makes it quick and easy to fix the articles of clothing that you’ve rendered useless in one quick swoop. Forget about using those old school safety pin and wire hanger methods to try to pull that replacement for a hoodie drawstring through—you don’t want to poke your eye out in the process. This cool gadget makes those strange techniques a thing of the distant past.

If restringing and clothing repair isn’t one of your worries, then you’ll definitely want to check out Google’s Virtual Reality Goggles, which should be available by the end of the year—and may become one of the hottest accessories possible. They will basically beam info to your eyes, delivering info about what you’re looking at, from basic history to discounts available at, for example, a store or restaurant.

The above are truly bound to be some of the great inventions of the year, but if you’re all about pure functionality, then you may consider the iPhone 5 the next big thing. While it’s reportedly the “thinnest smartphone” available, it also offers a larger screen, 4G connectivity and is made entirely of aluminum and glass.
